Okemos middle schoolers run in annual Chieftain Challenge mile

Click here to see photos take by Dan Carey during Thursday's Chieftain Challenge. Ashton Miller (5:21) was first of 87 girls, and Daniel Kroth (4:53) was first of 134 boys in the annual mile race on Friday afternoon between Okemos Chippewa and Kinawa Middle School. Results were compiled by Chuck Block of the Michigan Running Foundation. Students had to reach a certain time in physical education class to be allowed to compete in the year-end reward in front of the entire student body and staff. Again this year, computer chip timing was used so individual results could be compiled. (This was nearly impossible without the computer chip because so many students would finish their mile at nearly the same time.)
