Playmakers Racing finished eighth of 42 teams in the men’s open division and 14th of 15 teams in the men’s 50-59 age division at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in Lexington, Kentucky. All races were 10 kilometers (6.2 miles). In the men’s open division, Nick Stanko of Haslett (30:50) finished 27th, Todd Snyder of Shelby Township (30:58) 31st, Scott Schmick of Okemos (31:17) 44th, Grant Robison of East Lansing (31:50) 75th, Kristopher Koster of Grand Rapids (32:11) 94th, Nick Krus of St. Clair Shores (32:29) 114th, Matt Bartlebaugh of Ann Arbor (32:43) 123rd, and Jerome Recker of Lansing (34:08) 204th. In the men’s 50-59 division, Chuck Block of Lansing (42:28) came in 65th place, Gerald Crane of Haslett (46:20) 77th, Thomas Saxton of Holt (48:11) 80th, Douglas Hansel of Lansing (50:07) 84th, Randy Bates of Ada (51:59) 86th, David Hanson of Mason (52:29) 88th and Patrick Murray of Lansing (54:47) 90th. One spot ahead of Playmakers in 13th place in the 50-59 age division was the Mid-Michigan Track Club team. Jim Thompson of East Lansing (38:26) took 36th place, Jim Carter of Okemos (45:23) 74th, Jon Killips of Dimondale (45:52) 76th, Steve Miller of Eaton Rapids (48:49) 81st, John Coleman of Lansing (49:08) 82nd, and James Hicks of Mason (51:50) 85th. Among other mid-Michigan runners, Eric Stuber of Lansing (34:48) finished 38th and Steve Menovcik of Grand Ledge (35:03) 45th for the third-place Frontline Racing Team in the men’s 40-49 division, and J.D. Pepper of Stockbridge (35:47) took 74th running unattached.
In another USATF event, Nick Flietstra of Potterville finished 11th of 150 17- and 18-year-old runners with a time of 16:31 at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Reno, Nevada. The senior who helped Potterville win Division 4 cross country state titles in 2007 and 2008 qualified for the national meet by finishing runner-up in the young men’s division at the USATF Region 5 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships on Nov. 21 in Lexington, Kentucky.
