A record 1,781 runners, walkers finished Lansing Turkeyman Trot

A record 1,885 runners and walkers registered and 1,781 finished the ninth annual Lansing Turkeyman Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning near Lansing Community College. Former Olympian Grant Robison of East Lansing (14:52) repeated as the male overall champion, and Maddi Reeves of East Lansing (18:43) earned the female overall title over Jennifer Snelgrove of Grand Ledge (18:46) even though she finished behind her because of D-tag time adjustment. Reeves evidently crossed the starting line computer timing mat four seconds later than Snelgrove did, so her adjusted time was three seconds ahead of Snelgrove's. (Snelgrove's gun time was 18:49 and Reeves' was 18:50).

Good Form Running presentation a hit at The Running Event in Texas

Former Olympian Grant Robison (pictured) and Playmakers co-owners Curt Munson and John Benedict made a presentation about Good Form Running at the Running Event in Austin, Texas, in November. Comments included that this was the best presentation ever at this conference. Others wanted Robison, Munson and Benedict to come their store and train them. Others wanted a copy of the Power Point presentation. Some were even willing to pay for the presentation (which you can experience for free every Thursday from 6-7:15 p.m. at Playmakers) or pay to be trained to present it themselves. Click here to go the Good Form Running web site for more information or to sign up for the free weekly presentation here.

Playmakers' Curt Munson inducted into running retailers hall of fame; Playmakers among top 50 stores

Curt Munson accepted his induction into the Independent Running Retailers Association hall of fame for retailers on Nov. 10 at The Running Event in Austin, Texas. The award may be the most significant the longtime Playmakers owner has received since retail nominees have to have been a specialty retailer for 25 years and had a major impact on specialty retail operations to be nominated. Munson is shown with Gazelle Sports' Chris Crowell in the top center photo. Awards were also presented to former world class marathoners Alberto Salazar and Dick Beardsley, who are shown in the top right photo.

Playmakers was also named a top 50 retailer for the fourth straight year.

Grant Robison, Jake Crowe and Mike Homan also combined to win the retailer team division of the Indie 5K at The  Running Event in Austin, Texas, on Nov. 11. Other Playmakers employees competed, but the team scoring was based on the top three finishers.
