| Nutrition Note - All Calories Count! |
|
Yes, it is possible to gain weight while training. Running burns about 100 calories per mile, give or take some calories depending on your size and speed; walking burns about 75. So, for example, if you've got a 3-4 mile midweek training run or walk, you've got enough extra calories in your day for a pre-workout snack (med. banana =~100 calories) and some sports drink (20 oz.=120-150 calories) during your workout, but not that piece of pie (1/8 of a pie=350 calories) or extra slice of pepperoni pizza (~300 calories) at dinner. Watch out for those second helpings, large portions, and extra sweets you think you deserve for your great effort! |
